Ever wonder what goes on inside your Android TV box? I mean really inside it.
Each has its own specific set of software, called the firmware. Like any piece of technology, it’s important to keep it updated. Android TV boxes usually come with the latest firmware versions that are available.

The trouble is, that Android TV box firmware can become out of date as fast as you can say “Google Update.” Some manufacturers are going to be better than others about updating their device’s firmware. I think it sucks when I buy something and find that there’s no tech support after the sale. Part of is to make sure its got the latest firmware.
So I’ve put together a list of all the major Android TV box manufacturers complete with all of their models and a link to their latest firmware. I’ve also included the date the firmware was released, if available. That way, you’ll be able to see, by device, when it was updated last. Note: All files are hosted on the manufacturer’s sites or their sites or fileshares. I’m hoping this can be a resource for everyone so that their devices can be updated, secure and running smoothly. JUST GETTING STARTED?
Get up to speed quickly with my. Check it out here or using the image below! Android TV Box Firmware FAQ I get a lot of questions related to Android TV box firmware – more than any other subject on this site. So I thought I’d post the most frequently asked questions here to help you. For more, head on over to my main FAQ page. I have TV box and it’s not on the list. Do you know where I can get the firmware?
This list has most of the major TV box manufacturers on it that have download pages for their products. Some big companies (I’m looking at you ) don’t have a firmware page and have yet to return any of my emails asking about new firmware.
Chances are that if the box isn’t on the list below, the company either won’t respond to my questions, or doesn’t have any downloads available. Either way, it’s not a very good sign of how they plan to support you down the road. My box has Android blah.blah.blah. Can it be upgraded to the latest version of Android? Maybe, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
If you have an Android smartphone or tablet, you’ve probably seen that some companies get updates faster than others. That’s one of the huge advantages of the Google Nexus line of smartphones.
They get updates first. You see, its up to the manufacturer when they want to roll out an Operating System upgrade – if they want to at all. To be perfectly blunt, most manufacturers would rather spend their money developing new products than upgrading old ones.
I can’t say I blame them for that. I bought my box on eBay, or Craigslist, or from some guy that was selling them at the local fair. Do you have an update for that? No, and he probably doesn’t either.
I hate to break it to you, but buying a TV box from someone you met at a local fair, or worse, a random person on eBay or Craigslist is asking for trouble. Sure, there are reputable sellers on eBay – absolutely. But they’re few and far between, and you can’t always tell by a large feedback score. Let me give you an example: My eBay account has over 1300 positive feedback because its been active since 1998, mostly from things that I’ve bought over the years. If I started selling TV boxes (which I have NO plans to do – EVER), then that feedback that I earned as a buyer would carry over to my selling account.
Meaning it has nothing to do with how I treat my buyers. It’s really easy to scam eBay’s system to get a high feedback. Just because someone has a high feedback, doesn’t mean they’re a good seller. Check out for more info. I have box, can you tell me who the manufacturer is?
Possibly, but it’s not as easy as it should be. When the first TV sticks (before TV boxes) came out a few years ago, some of the models became household names, but others died off. The tricky part is that different tech companies kept using the names that worked, bringing out new versions with different hardware.
They may have nothing in common with the original, or even be made by the same company. For example, you can have several different versions of the G-Box TV box – made popular by Matricom. Notice I said “made popular by” and not “made by”.
If you bought a “G-Box TV box”, you may have a Matricom device and you may not. This is common with “MX” and “MXQ” boxes, too. The box may have the same components, but there’s a good chance it won’t. The best bet is to contact whoever you bought it from and ask them for an update. Will your firmware work on my TV box? Trust me: you don’t want me creating firmware for you. I’m an analyst, not a programmer.
? My TV box looks like one of the boxes on this list. Can I just use their firmware? Because the Android TV box market is so big, there are a hundreds, if not thousands, of small sellers that are looking to make a quick sale. There’s nothing really wrong with that, mind you.
That’s how every small business gets started. Since they buy their devices in bulk from manufacturers overseas, a lot of people can sell the same box.
To upgrade the firmware, you may not want the manufacturer. You may actually want the seller.
Here’s why: After someone buys a bulk shipment of TV boxes, they (maybe) add a custom Kodi build, or hire a developer to make some custom software for it. Then they sell it – usually on eBay or Craigslist (see above), but maybe on their own website. If the software on the box is changed in any way, using a generic firmware upgrade may “brick” the device. ‘Bricking’ is a term to describe when a piece of electronics (TV box, tablet, phone, etc.) won’t turn on, or turns on to a black screen. Essentially, you’ve created a really expensive paperweight, or brick. To be clear: if you try to put a firmware on your device that wasn’t meant for it, you could ‘brick’ your TV box, making it useless. I bricked my TV box.
How do I fix it? You may be able to fix it, and you may not. I’ll be perfectly honest, though. That’s not my forte.
The best resource I can send you to is. They have a community of tweakers and firmware developers that may be able to help. Do you have a Custom Firmware for my TV box? Not on this list. Custom firmware is, by its nature, more quirky than a stock firmware. It depends how it was created. Sometimes the firmware is designed to fix bugs and be more stable.
But sometimes, it’s built to test the performance limits of the device. That could cause issues down the road. As I mentioned above, Freaktab.com is a great resource for custom firmware. If you’ve bought a TV box that is popular enough, it’s a chance that someone developed a custom firmware for it. I am thinking of selling TV boxes.
Can you recommend custom firmware developers for me? I have no interest in selling TV boxes, or being involved in that side of the business. You’re on your own for that one. Jump to Manufacturer Firmware:.

Hello, i’m not sure if my model is listed here, there is an app to see what is my device?
Phisically is like CS918 Tv Box, but i’ve see that there are too many models, such as “plus” “dual” “extreme”how i can be sure that i’ll download a compatible rom? The only things I can see under setup are: Serial Number: V8GCU6JBJL Model Number: Android TV kernel Version: 3.0.36+ zgqV104j2 #36 Thu Ced 26 10:02:59 CST 2013 Vendor Software Version: 203j2 Please help me, all that i want to do is move app and downloaded file in SD Card, wile now the device store everythin in RAM or integrated nand flash memory. Thank you so much and excuse me for my english. Hello, I have a cloudnetgo CR13 box. Can u please help me how to install the latest firmware?
On the company download center you cannot download the firmware because: 1. When I try it the very last page is only in Chinese. Even if I translate it is asking me to install another software to access the file (Baidu).
I opened an account there, I download the file but how can I install the update on the TV-BOX? If I try directly on the android box, in SETTINGS- about device- system updates-check now it says that the current version is the last one (version 1.0.0) but this is the very first version and I saw on the Cloudnetgo page that there was several updates available. Any help please? Best regards. Thanks for the comment. I have to admit, I’ve never heard of WaveMatter before.
Their website is mostly under construction and doesn’t have any address or method of contacting them. I was able to find one retailer, who’s name kept popping up in my searches. They may be able to put you in touch with the manufacturer. However, the box is running the RK3066 chipset, so it is based on technology that is several years old. I’m not holding my breath that there will be a firmware update for it. Sorry I couldn’t be more help.
Norbi, I think I understand what you are trying to do.flash your Android TV Box from files on your Windows 8.1 box. Well, I believe that the Android OS is a Linux derivative, so you need a linux tool to be able to browse to your files on your Windows 8.1 box. I would suggest you try WinSCP. Its a free download and it will load on your Windows 8 boxmake sure you get the correct download when you get there. Google WinSCP to find it. It will let you see the files on your Android from your windows box.
I hope this helps, Marc. Thanks for your comment, and that’s a great point. I wasn’t able to find anything obvious on BeeLink’s web site as far as a download page, so I reached out to them via email.
If they can point me in the right direction, I’ll make sure they’re added to the list. As far as RK3368 vs S905, I lean towards the AmLogic S905. It has consistently better performance when watching videos, which is what most of us are using our Android TV boxes for, anyway.
Plus, the Kodi developers have a much better opinion of them, which doesn’t hurt. Thanks again for your comment! That’s going to be a bit challenging. The ATV1200 was re-branded by several different companies, which isn’t too bad actually. Where it gets difficult is that even though somce companies called it the ATV1200, it’s not necessarily got the same components as the next ATV1200 you’ll see. I couldn’t find any custom ROM’s on Freaktab.com and the support page on MyGica.tv doesn’t list the ATV1200 anymore. That’s the bad news.
The good news is that after two years, you can spend around $50 and get a brand new S905 based box that will run circles around your old box. Sorry I couldn’t be more help. Hello everybody, i hope you all great, i need your help please I’m new on using android tv box i got m8c android tv box and also i did buy remote with air mouse function it is ( minix A2 ) with microphone and specker, but I’m having problems when i use it, the sound come from the remote only and not from the TV I tried on the sitting of the box but there is no aplenty to control the sound output, and one more thing i need new firmware for my box ( m8c ) but I didn’t find please can you help me with this problems and thank you for your help. I think it’s fantastic that there are people like you offering up such an awesome resource.
But of course, I have a question. I’ve searched this thread and been all ovver google to no avail. Here are my box details. Can you point me in the direction of the appropriate firmware update?
Media Center Android 4.4.2 OS, Amlogic S802 2.0GHz Quad core Model: K200 Build 115k4 Kernel: 3.10.33 Oman@ubuntu #1 Sat May 30 15:51:16 CST 2105 Box is 2 years old. Is there an update available? Again many thanks for what you do. The A31 is an Allwinner designed chipset which came out in 2013. That’s actually two strikes against that particular TV box.
First, Allwinner is notoriously bad at running Kodi. There are several threads on the Official Kodi Forums where the developers are complaining about the lack of support from Allwinner.
The last I had heard, they were looking at dropping support for their CPU. But, I’m not sure how far that ever got. The second strike is that there probably aren’t too many developers working on a three year old chipset to make it compatible with Android 5 or 6.
I did a quick search and couldn’t find any updates for that particular box. Thanks Tim, this is a must read for those who really arent sure what they’re looking for, yet persevere for hours, possibly days, and become even more confused! I am looking for an update for my pre-rooted MXIII 4.4.2 (k200MXIII1G), Manufacturer: MBX, Hardware: amlogic, Build ID: KOT49H.20150706 test-keys.
I have had it about a year and its been a brilliant little box but over the past few months it’s behaviour has tested me! I also have the same problem with the OTA app as Jon. I was given this box as a gift and it is impossible for me to find out the seller/supplier due to, erm, issues. You don’t normally need to root a device in order to do an OTA update. Many manufacturers, like Zoomtak, will set up a simple app which will handle the OTA process for you. What it sounds like in your case, though, is that something got corrupted in the update file itself which is causing it to fail. I’d first try to re-download the file from another source.
If that doesn’t work, you may have to update the box manually. Butbecause a manual update is such a pain, I’d reach out to Zoomtak’s customer service department, or their forums and see if they can help. Hello Tim I have an MXQ S805 Tv Box Kitkat 4.4.2 it was working find till one day it never turn on ever again and I search for an answer,I saw lots of differents chocies but nothing seems to work.
I have download the (USBBurningTool) & (SDCard Software) an also disable driver signature enforcement windows 7 64 bit with Film Ware & DiscImagefile (s85106k40912) for my MXQ S805 an when I hit start download, it’s stop at 2%. The error says (HUB2-1 2017-01-31 13:53:37 0X1101040USB error occur when check DDR run at RomCode).
If you have the answer to my problem just let me know ok, thanks for your time. Edith Thompson says November 9, 2017 at 11:12 pm Added again Jan. 11, 2018 Do you have the site for the TX3 Pro TV Box?
